There is a new show on TLC called "Extreme Couponing". I think it should be on the A&E channel after the show "Intervention"....just kidding, dont hate! The show is about women who are truly amazing couponers, and pay almost nothing for groceries. The thing thats disturbing to me is that they spend up to 6 hours a day researching, clipping, and shopping. 18 different transactions in one shopping trip. Going to the store at midnight to ensure that you get the product. Using your shower to store toilet paper. There was a lady, who was on the larger side(larger ladies like me can point this out), who purchased 10 packages of hot dogs (for her party for her friends), and then in the same breath, was asking where the Maalox was, she bought 30 bottles. No doubt, my plus-size friend! The things that are offered in coupons, many of the times are the things I dont want my kids eating...processed foods like Pop-Tarts, corn dogs, and apple juice. Not to mention, if my kids knew that there was like 300 boxes of Fruit Roll Ups in the closet, they will blast through the boxes at a speed inhumanly possible. I truly believe that even the most virtuous endevour can be addictive, aren't we all striving for balance?

I cannot even watch this show... it goes against my desire to keep things simple. I'm all for couponing (I have some in my purse), but only if it's a product that you will absolutely use (not just for the sake of the deal or for having), and it's not something you will overindulge in (ex. no large bags of chocolate chips at my house or fruit snacks for the kids). And 6 hours a day? Would they have a show about me and cool I am if I exercised 6 hours a day? No, your right it would be on right after intervention... or part of it.
Ok. I'm done now. :)
I tried reading some of the main blogs about couponing and giving it a little test run but when the intro to the blog said to forget going to the grocery store once a week and plan on multiple trips to different stores weekly . . . they lost me.
Then there was talk of beating the couponing crowd and stories of shelves being wiped clean within an hour of the store opening. It sounds like making everyday grocery shopping something akin to black Friday.
Not to mention trying to keep track of coupons is basically my brains worst nightmare.
Kudos to those who make it work without going crazy!
Amen Kellie!
I'm totally with you. I have a friend that drives from store to store - I'm pretty sure with gas prices that saving .10 just can't be worth all that.
