So, we have been discussing when we should take a family vacation, and we figured that someday would never come if we didn't just do it. A couple clicks and we were booked to stay in San Diego for two days and Anaheim for 2days. We went to Sea World, which was fun. Drew was not cool once he saw Shamoo come into the tank we were standing in front of. "Dad I want to leave, seriously" he said. The next day we went to the beach, in 65 degree temps, I am sure the water was not much warmer. We had the whole Huntington Beach to ourselves, go figure.
On to Disneyland where I was determined to squeeze out as much fun for a family of five that paid $310 just to get in the park. That meant, getting there at 7:45 to beat the crowds when it opened at 8am. Ha, Ha. There were hundreds, dare I say close to 1000 already there. Once in the gate, a Farrell has never run so fast as to get to at least 1 ride and not wait the usual hour to get on. It was fun overall, Drew went on the Matterhorn and Thunder Mountain, not without some creative trickery. He figured out after those two that if he said he had to go potty 3/4 of the way in the line that someone would have to jump ship, smart boy.

Amazingly, we lasted 14 hours of Disney, crowds, and overpriced food ($60 for lunch?!). We made a run for Del Taco as soon as we left the park, no way were we staying for one more "magically overpriced meal".
It takes a lot of work to vacation, lots of packing, lots of patience. But the sandy laundry tells me that we had a great time, and the kid's memory of a fun family vacation is worth it. That relaxing Hawaiian vacation will just have to wait...

Sounds like you guys had a blast! We're planning to go pretty soon because Sean and Ben have never been to Disneyland. Can you believe that? My husband is 35 and has NEVER been to the Magic Kingdom!
